JP Morgan Chase took $25 Billion from the Federal Taxpayers under the TARP program. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley reportedly took $10 Billion apiece. These are the figures reported by the Financial Times in a chart, "Bonus Breakdown" (July 30 - 31, 2009).
Here are the figures listed in the same chart for "2008 total bonuses paid" by these people:
Morgan Stanley: $1,700,000,000.00 or $1.700 Billion.
It is interesting to break down the percentages of these Bonus Billions paid, compared to TARP Billions received:
- JP Morgan Chase: 34.7%.
- Goldman Sachs: 23.22%.
-
Morgan Stanley: 17.0%.
The next time that someone urges you to believe that these particular institutions did not spend TARP money on Bonuses, remember these actual numbers.
