Reductions of Principal "'are still on the table'" says a spokesperson for the State Attorney General actually in charge of negotiations with the Banks and other Finance Companies, the Iowa Attorney General. See Beth Kassab, "Bondi Eases Stand on Reduced Principals" p. B5, col. 1 (Orlando Sentinel, "Business" Section, Friday, July 29, 2011).
Even General Bondi of Florida is coming around to the idea. She issued a press release stating that in "'appropriate'" cases principal reduction might be considered. She did not have an example of an appropriate case in which principal reduction might be considered. See id.
At the same time, General Bondi responded to reactions overwhelming her Office to her firing of two Assistant Attorneys General whose work was lauded as "instrumental" in successful Foreclosure investigations and remedies. She responded that the Assistant Attorneys General performed "'poorly,'" but again, she could not say how. See id.; Janet Zink, "Bondi Faces Call For Inquiry Into Forced Resignations of Two State Lawyers" (St. Petersburg Times Online, Wed., July 27, 2011).
